Route 21 lane closures required this week for emergency bridge repairs near Route 3 in Clifton
Two temporary left lane closures necessary to install
construction barrier
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced emergency bridge repairs to the Route 21 Exit 9 ramp to Route 3, requiring overnight lane closures on Route 21 North and South in Clifton, Passaic County.
Beginning at 9 p.m. Wednesday, September 7 until 5 a.m. Thursday, September 8, two left lanes on Route 21 North are scheduled to be closed to safely swing and install a temporary construction barrier. Also, beginning at 9 p.m. Thursday, September 8 until 5 a.m. Friday, September 9, two left lanes on Route 21 South will be closed for the continued installation of construction barriers. At least one lane will be maintained while the barriers are being installed.
Once the barriers are in place, single left lane closures on Route 21 North and Route 21 South will continue for the duration of the emergency construction. The work is necessary to repair the supporting piers underneath the Route 21 Exit 9 Bridge to Route 3 at milepost 9.28. The Route 21 Exit 9 ramp will remain open. The barriers will be in place until the repair is completed, which is expected to take a few weeks.
NJDOT recommends that motorists plan their trips accordingly and prepare for delays in the region.
NJDOT will be using Variable Message Signs to provide advance notification to motorists of traffic pattern changes associated with the work.
