Railroad-crossing repairs begins this week in Interlaken, Monmouth County
Necessary safety work will require road closure and detour
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced a railroad crossing rehabilitation project that will require a road closure and detour tomorrow in Interlaken, Monmouth County.
Two-way traffic on Grassmere Avenue is scheduled to be closed at the NJ TRANSIT railroad grade crossing between Main Street and Bridlemere Avenue from 7 a.m. Thursday, September 8, until 7 p.m. Thursday, September 15. Grassmere Avenue was closed for an earlier construction project on the adjacent roundabout.
The following detour will remain in place:
Main Street/Grassmere Avenue Detour
• Traffic is being directed from Main Street to Corlies Avenue, to Westra Street/Monmouth Road and Grassmere Avenue.
The traffic detour has been coordinated with the local police. If work is completed earlier, the roadway will be reopened accordingly.
In order to provide safer and smoother railroad crossing in Interlaken, the existing crossing will be replaced with new concrete crossings and new asphalt approaches. This project is included within NJDOT’s railroad grade-crossing safety program which repairs, upgrades, or removes approximately 30 crossings each year, statewide.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info.
