Railroad-crossing repairs begin this week on
Hudson Street in Freehold
Necessary safety work will require road closure and detours

Beginning at 7 a.m. Thursday, September 8, until 7 p.m. Friday, September 9, the two-way traffic on Hudson Street is scheduled to be closed between Elm Street and Mechanic Street, before the Conrail railroad grade crossing. The following detours will be in place:

From Hudson Street north:
• Traveling north on Hudson Street, motorists will be directed to make a left on Elm Street
• From Elm Street, motorists will make a right onto Route 79/South Street
• On South Street/Route 79, motorists will bear right onto East Main Street/Route 79
• From East Main Street/Route 79, motorist will make a right onto Center Street
• From Center Street, motorists will continue back to Hudson Street

From Hudson Street south:
• Traveling south on Hudson Street, motorists will be directed to make a right onto Center Street
• From Center Street, motorists will make a left onto East Main Street/Route 79
• From East Main Street/Route 79, motorists will bear left onto South Street/Route 79
• From South Street/Route 79, motorists will make a left onto Elm Street
• From Elm Street, motorists can turn left onto Hudson Street or turn right onto Conover Street

The traffic detour will be coordinated with the local police. If work is completed earlier, the roadways will be reopened accordingly.

In order to provide safer and smoother railroad crossing in Freehold, the existing crossing will be replaced with new concrete crossings and new asphalt approaches. This federally-funded project is included within NJDOT’s railroad grade-crossing safety program which repairs, upgrades, or removes approximately 30 crossings each year, statewide.
