Railroad-crossing repairs begin next week on Madison Avenue in Paterson
Necessary safety work will require road closure and detours

Beginning at 8 a.m. Monday, September 19, until 8 a.m. Thursday, September 29, the two-way traffic between Madison Avenue and Ellison Place will be closed before the railroad grade crossing. The following detours will be in place:

From Madison Avenue north:
• Traveling north on Madison Avenue, motorists will be directed to make a left on 16th Avenue
• From 16th Avenue, motorists will make a right onto 18th Street
• On 18th Street, motorists will make another right onto Broadway
• From Broadway, motorist will continue back to Madison Avenue

From Madison Avenue south:
• Traveling south on Madison Avenue, motorists will be directed to make a left onto Broadway
• From Broadway, motorists will make a right onto 22nd Street
• From 22nd Street, motorists will make a right onto Park Avenue
• From Park Avenue, motorists will continue back to Madison Avenue

From Ellison Place east/west:
Motorists traveling east or west on Ellison Place will use the same Madison Avenue detour roads and signage.

The traffic detour will be coordinated with the local police. If work is completed earlier, the roadways will be reopened accordingly.

In order to provide safer and smoother railroad crossing in Paterson, the existing crossing will be replaced with new concrete crossings and new asphalt approaches. This federally-funded project is included within NJDOT’s railroad grade-crossing safety program which repairs, upgrades, or removes approximately 30 crossings each year, statewide.
