Route 70 resurfacing project requires lane closures in Burlington County
Temporary alternating lane closures necessary
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced a resurfacing project along 9.5 miles of Route 70 that will require lane closures in Southampton, Woodland, and Pemberton in Burlington County.
Beginning at 8 p.m. tonight, Monday, September 26, and continuing until 6 a.m. Tuesday, September 27, and again at 8 p.m. Tuesday, September 27, and continuing until 7.a.m, Wednesday, September 28, NJDOT’s contractor, Trap Rock Industries, LLC., is scheduled to temporarily close alternating lanes on Route 70 eastbound and westbound for the start of a milling and paving project along 9.5 miles from Red Lion Road in Southampton to Dakota Trail in Pemberton, Burlington County.
Initial work began September 12 with sign installation, curb, and electric work. Lane closures on the mainline will begin east of Huntington Drive in Southampton and will continue east on Route 70 towards Pemberton. Additional lane closures during off-peak hours may be necessary until the project is completed. There will be periodic work on the shoulder from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the next few weeks for sidewalk and electrical work near Route 70 intersections with New Road and Huntington Drive.
The $7 million federally-funded Route 70 resurfacing project is expected to be completed by fall 2017. The project will include guiderail replacements along Route 70, and painted crosswalks, traffic signal upgrades, ADA ramps and curbs at two Route 70 signalized intersections with New Road and Huntington Drive. NJDOT has designed the project to advance with temporary lane closures, reopening after each shift. All lanes will be maintained during the morning and evening commutes. Any required detours will be coordinated with the local authorities.
Variable message signs and detour signs are being utilized throughout the project limits to provide advance notification to motorists of all traffic pattern changes associated with the resurfacing project. Throughout the project, NJDOT will provide information before upcoming road or ramp closures.
