Route 7 over Conrail to be closed overnight in Kearny
Detour necessary for bridge repair project
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced Route 7 will be closed overnight this tonight, allowing for the rehabilitation of the Route 7 Bridge over Conrail railroad tracks to advance in Kearny, Hudson County.
Starting at 8 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, October 5 and continuing until 5 a.m. Thursday, October 6, NJDOT’s contractor, Konkus Corporation, will close traffic on Route 7 in order to shift Route 7 southbound traffic to the center of the bridge.
The following Route 7 detour will be in place from 8 p.m. Wednesday night until 5 a.m., Thursday morning:
Traffic from Jersey City to Kearny:
• Motorists traveling northwest on Route 7 from Jersey City will be directed onto CR 508/Newark-Jersey City Turnpike/Harrison Avenue to Schuyler Avenue and back onto Route 7/Belleville Turnpike.
Traffic from Kearny to Jersey City:
• Motorists traveling southeast on Route 7 from Kearny to Jersey City will be directed to Schuyler Avenue to Harrison Avenue/CR 508/Newark-Jersey City Turnpike to Route 7.
NJDOT has designed work on the $13.7 million bridge rehabilitation project to be performed in stages. The project is expected to be completed by the end of summer 2017.
Portable variable message signs are being utilized to provide advance notification to the public of all traffic pattern changes associated with the work.
