Railroad-crossing repairs begin this week
on Fairlawn Avenue in Fairlawn
Necessary safety work will require road closure and detours
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced a railroad crossing rehabilitation project that will require road closures and detours starting this week in Fairlawn, Bergen County.
Beginning at 7 a.m. Thursday, October 20, until 7 p.m. Thursday, October 27, the two-way traffic on Fairlawn Avenue is scheduled to be closed between Plaza Road and Orchard Street, before the railroad grade crossing. The following detours will be in place:
From Fairlawn Avenue east:
• Traveling east on Fairlawn Avenue, motorists will be directed to the Route 208 southbound ramp at Orchard Street
• Motorists will continue onto Route 208 southbound and take the first exit to Plaza Road
• Motorists will make a left on Plaza Road and continue to Fairlawn Avenue
From Fairlawn Avenue west:
• Traveling west on Fairlawn Avenue, motorists will be directed to make a left onto Plaza Road
• From Plaza Road, motorists will make a right on Berdan Avenue and another right onto the Route 208 north ramp
• From Route 208 north, motorists will take the next exit for Fairlawn Avenue
The traffic detour will be coordinated with the local police. If work is completed earlier, the roadways will be reopened accordingly.
In order to provide safer and smoother railroad crossing in Fairlawn, the existing crossing will be replaced with new concrete crossings and new asphalt approaches. This federally-funded project is included within NJDOT’s railroad grade-crossing safety program which repairs, upgrades, or removes approximately 30 crossings each year, statewide.
