Railroad-crossing repairs begin this week
on Route 10 in Roxbury
Necessary safety work will require road closure and detours
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today are reminding motorists the second of four railroad crossing rehabilitation projects that will require road closures and detours is starting this week in Morris County.
Route 10 in Roxbury is scheduled to be closed in both directions between Eyland Avenue and Main Street before the railroad grade crossing on Friday, October 21. Beginning at 6 p.m. Route 10 eastbound will be closed, and at 8 p.m. Route 10 westbound will be closed. Route 10 will be reopened in both directions by 6 a.m. Monday, October 24. The following detours will be in place:
From Route 10 east:
• Vehicles traveling on Route 10 eastbound will be directed to make a right onto Eyland Avenue
• Make a left onto Righter Road
• Then another left onto Park Avenue
• Make a right onto Sussex Turnpike
• Make a left onto Canfield Avenue and continue to Route 10
From Route 10 west:

• Make a left onto Eyland Avenue and continue to Route 10
Route 10 Truck Detour:
A detour is provided for trucks that are over 4 TONS.
• Trucks on Route 10 eastbound will travel past Eyland Avenue, and will be directed to Route 46 east to Canfield Avenue, make a right onto Canfield Avenue to Route 10.
• Trucks on Route 10 westbound will travel past Eyland Avenue, and will be directed to make a right onto Canfield Avenue to Route 46, and make a left onto Route 46 west, continue on Route 46 west to the intersection with Route 10.
The traffic detour will be coordinated with the local police. If work is completed earlier, the roadways will be reopened accordingly.
In order to provide safer and smoother railroad crossing in Roxbury, the existing crossing will be replaced with new concrete crossings and new asphalt approaches. This federally-funded project is included within NJDOT’s railroad grade-crossing safety program which repairs, upgrades, or removes approximately 30 crossings each year, statewide.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info.
