Railroad-crossing repairs begin next week on
Hamburg Turnpike in Riverdale
Necessary safety work will require road closure and detours
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced a railroad crossing rehabilitation project that will require the closure and detour of Hamburg Turnpike/CR694 next week in Riverdale, Morris County.
Beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, May 15, until 7p.m. Thursday, May 18, the two-way traffic on Hamburg Turnpike/CR694 is scheduled to be closed at the railroad crossing between Morris Avenue/Post Lane and Haycock Avenue. The existing railroad crossing will be removed and replaced with a new concrete crossing and asphalt approach. The following detour will remain in place:
Hamburg Turnpike/CR694 westbound Detour
- Motorists traveling on Hamburg Turnpike/CR694 westbound will be directed onto Ringwood Avenue/CR511 Alt. northbound
- Continue on Ringwood Avenue and make a left onto Union Avenue/CR511
- Make the next left onto I-287 southbound
- Take I-287 southbound Exit 53 onto Hamburg Turnpike/CR694
Hamburg Turnpike/CR694 eastbound Detour
- Motorists traveling eastbound on Hamburg Turnpike/CR694 will be directed onto I-287 northbound and take Exit 55 to Ringwood Avenue/CR511
- Make a left on Ringwood Avenue/CR511 Alt. southbound
- Continue on Ringwood Avenue/CR511 Alt. southbound and make a right onto Hamburg Turnpike/CR 694
The traffic detour will be coordinated with the local police. If work is completed earlier, the roadway will be reopened accordingly.
In order to provide safer and smoother railroad crossing in Riverdale, the existing crossings will be replaced with new concrete crossings and new asphalt approaches. This federally-funded project is included within NJDOT’s railroad grade-crossing safety program which repairs, upgrades, or removes approximately 30 crossings each year, statewide.
