Route 50 Tuckahoe River Bridge fully reopened following completion of bridge replacement project
Construction project completed between
Upper Township and Corbin City
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced the reopening of all lanes on Route 50, following the completion of bridge replacement work on Route 50 between Cape May and Atlantic Counties.
The Department has worked to ensure the bridge reopened in advance of Memorial Day weekend. Route50 between Cape May and Atlantic Counties is a major summer season travel route for motorists. Although minor final construction on the bridge deck remains, no significant traffic impacts are anticipated.
The $11.7 million federally-funded project, which began in October 2013 demolished and replaced the existing, structurally-deficient bascule lift drawbridge with a new low-level, fixed-span structure over the Tuckahoe River connecting Upper Township in Cape May County with Corbin City in Atlantic County. The project reconstructed and widened the highway in the vicinity of the bridge, and provides safety and operational improvements at intersections including the addition of new dedicated turn lanes. New sidewalks and curbs were installed along Route 50 and the existing drainage system was upgraded. The project was expected to be complete by summer 2017.
Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info.
