Railroad-crossing repairs begin this week on
Atlantic Avenue in Point Pleasant Beach
Necessary safety work will require road closure and detours
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced a railroad crossing rehabilitation project that will require the closure and detour of Atlantic Avenue this week in Point Pleasant Beach, Ocean County.
Beginning at 7 a.m. tomorrow, Thursday, June 15, until 7 p.m. Thursday, June 22, the two-way traffic on Atlantic Avenue is scheduled to be closed at the railroad crossing between Route35/Cincinnati Avenue and St. Louis Avenue. The existing railroad crossing will be removed and replaced with a new concrete crossing and asphalt approach. The following detours will remain in place:
Atlantic Avenue eastbound Detour:
- Motorists traveling east on Atlantic Avenue will be directed to make a left on Route 35/Cincinnati Avenue (northbound)
- Make a right on Forman Avenue
- Make a right on St. Louis Avenue
- Follow to Atlantic Avenue
Atlantic Avenue westbound Detour:
- Motorists traveling west on Atlantic Avenue will be directed to make a left on St. Louis Avenue (southbound)
- Make a right on New Jersey Avenue
- Make a right on Route 35/Cincinnati Avenue
- Follow to Atlantic Avenue
The traffic detour will be coordinated with the local police. If work is completed earlier, the roadway will be reopened accordingly.
In order to provide safer and smoother railroad crossing in Point Pleasant Beach, the existing crossings will be replaced with new concrete crossings and new asphalt approaches. This federally-funded project is included within NJDOT’s railroad grade-crossing safety program which repairs, upgrades, or removes approximately 30 crossings each year, statewide.
