I-95 northbound ramp from Route 175/River Road
to close overnights for Scudder Falls Bridge project
in Ewing

Detour necessary for utility work

(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced bridge construction work by the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission (DRJTBC) will require lane and ramp closures on Route 175/River Road to I-95 northbound in Ewing, Mercer County.

Beginning Wednesday, June 21 and continuing until June 29, Route 175/River Road will have a single-lane, alternating-traffic pattern between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. daily.  After a break for the July 4 holiday period, alternating single-lane travel will resume along the roadway on July 5 and continue to July 20.

In addition, during overnight periods – 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. daily – a full closure will be implemented (except for local traffic) along Route 175/River Road from Wednesday, June 21, to Saturday, July 29 and again from July 5 to July 20.  During the overnight closures, the Route 175/River Road ramp to I-95 northbound will be detoured as follows:

Route 29 southbound (Route 175/River Road ramp) to I-95 northbound Detour:
  • Motorists on Route 29 southbound will continue on Route 29 southbound
  • At the light, make a left onto West Upper Ferry Road
  • At the light, make a left onto Bear Tavern Road/CR579
  • Take ramp for I-95 northbound

West Upper Ferry Road/Route 29 northbound to I-95 northbound Detour:

  • Motorists on Upper Ferry Road traveling west will make a right onto Route 29 northbound/River Road
  • Stay in the left lane and stay left at the fork along Route 29 northbound/River Road
  • Bear right on the second fork for exit ramp onto I-95 northbound

The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission (DRJTBC) $396 million Scudder Falls Bridge replacement project will replace the functionally obsolete 57-year-old bridge that carries I-95 over the Delaware River between New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The project will replace the current four-lane bridge with a dual-span structure carrying six lanes of through traffic and three auxiliary lanes for merging on and off I-95 at the interchanges, as well as make additional roadway improvements along the 4.4 mile corridor between Route 332 in Pennsylvania and CR579 in New Jersey. Preparation for the bridge replacement project began in April 2017. Construction is expected to be completed by 2022.

Variable message signs are being utilized throughout the project limits to provide advance notification to motorists of traffic pattern changes associated with the bridge, interchange and roadway improvements project.

For more information on the project contact 855-495-7726 or go to: www.scudderfallsbridge.com.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weatheror other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info.
