Route 1 and Route 32 lane closures necessary
in Middlesex County
Temporary lane closures necessary for start of resurfacing project
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced a resurfacing project along approximately five miles of Route 1 and Route 32 that will require lane closures in Middlesex County.
Starting on Monday, August 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and again from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. the next morning, and continuing Mondays through Thursdays until fall 2018, NJDOT’s contractor, Trap Rock Industries, is scheduled to close single lane sections on Route 1 and Route 32 for approximately five miles in Edison, Woodbridge, and South Brunswick to mill and pave the roadway. Additional lane closures will be required after 10 p.m. nightly. At least one lane in each direction will be maintained at all times.
The project will resurface approximately four miles of Route 1 between Campus Drive and Deer Park Place in South Brunswick, and also from Townsley Street in Edison to Production Way in Woodbridge. In addition, the project also will resurface Route 32, approximately one mile in each direction in South Brunswick. No lane closures will be permitted Friday through Sunday.
The $8.4 million state-funded Route 1 and Route 32 maintenance resurfacing project is expected to be completed by fall 2018. The project will include pavement repair, concrete sidewalk and curb work and drainage improvements along Route 1 and Route 32. NJDOT has designed the project to advance with temporary lane closures, reopening after each shift. All lanes will be maintained during the morning and evening commutes.
Variable message signs are being utilized throughout the project limits to provide advance notification to motorists of all traffic pattern changes associated with the roadway maintenance and repair project. Throughout the project, NJDOT will provide information before upcoming road or ramp closures.
