Railroad-crossing repairs begin next week
on Bordentown Avenue in Old Bridge
Necessary safety work will require road closure and detours
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced a railroad crossing rehabilitation project that will require the closure and detour of Bordentown Avenue in Old Bridge, Middlesex County.
Beginning at 7 a.m. Monday, August 21, until 7p.m. Friday, Augusts 25, the two-way traffic on Bordentown Avenue/CR 615 is scheduled to be closed at the Robert Street/William Street railroad crossing. The existing railroad crossing will be removed and replaced with a new concrete crossing and asphalt approach. The following detours will remain in place:
Bordentown Avenue/CR 615 Northbound Detour:
- Motorists traveling north on Bordentown Avenue will be directed onto Old Bridge Turnpike/CR 527
- Make a right onto Main Street/CR 535
- Make a right onto Jernee Mill Road/CR675
- Make a right onto Bordentown Avenue/CR 615
Bordentown Avenue/CR 615 Southbound Detour:
- Motorists traveling south on Bordentown Avenue will be directed onto Jernee Mill Road/CR 675
- Make a left onto Washington Road/CR 535 which becomes Main Street
- Make a left onto Old Bridge Turnpike/CR 527
- Make a left onto Main Street/CR 615
- Continue over the South River, Main Street becomes Bordentown Avenue/CR 615
The detour will be coordinated with the local police. If work is completed earlier, the roadway will be reopened accordingly.
In order to provide safer and smoother railroad crossing in Old Bridge, the existing crossings will be replaced with new concrete crossings and new asphalt approaches. This federally-funded project is included within NJDOT’s railroad grade-crossing safety program which repairs, upgrades, or removes approximately 30 crossings each year, statewide.
