Notch Road Bridge over Route 46 to be closed for reconstruction in Passaic County
Detours in place through the winter
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced the full closure of the Notch Road Bridge over Route 46 for reconstruction for the next several months, as the Route 3/Route 46 Improvement Project advances in Passaic County.
Starting at 9 p.m. Tuesday, September 5, NJDOT’s contractor, J.F. Creamer & Sanzari, is scheduled to close the Notch Road Bridge over on Route 46 in Woodland Park, for approximately four months to allow the bridge to be reconstructed.
As part of the closure, Lackawanna Avenue southbound will reopen to allow for two-way traffic, and the ramp from Notch Road north to Route 46 eastbound has been reopened to allow detours that minimize the disruption to traffic. The following signed detours will be in place:
Notch Road/CR 633 north to Rifle Camp Road/Route 46 westbound detour:
- Motorists on Notch Road north will be directed to Route 46 east
- Keep right at the fork to take Route 3 east
- Take the Valley Road/CR 621 north exit and turn left to get on Route 46 west
- Stay to the right and take the Great Notch/Cedar Grove exit
Notch Road/CR 633 south detour:
- Motorists on Notch Road south will be directed to turn onto Lackawanna Avenue/CR 632 north
- From Lackawanna Avenue, traffic will turn left onto Lower Notch Road to Route 46 east
- Take the first exit for Notch Road/CR 633 south
Route 46 west to Notch Road south detour:
- Route 46 west traffic wishing to take Notch Road south will take the Great Notch/Cedar Grove exit
- Turn onto Lackawanna Avenue/CR 632 north
- From Lackawanna Avenue, traffic will turn left onto Lower Notch Road, cross under Route 46, and turn right onto the entrance ramp to Route 46 east
- Take the first exit for Notch Road/CR 633 south
Truck Detour – Route 46 west to Notch Road South:
- Trucks on Route 46 west wishing to take Notch Road south will continue Route 46
- Take the next exit for Lower Notch Road
- Turn right, cross under Route 46, and turn right onto the entrance ramp to Route 46 east
- Take the first exit for Notch Road/CR 633 south
The $40.8 million federally-funded Contract A portion of the Route 3, Route 46, Valley Road and Notch/Rifle Camp Road Interchange Improvements project, which started construction in January 2016, includes the construction of a new two-way service road, three signalized intersections, and two single-lane roundabouts parallel to Route 46 westbound to remove local traffic from the state highway. The project is being accomplished with two contracts, and is expected to be completed in fall 2022.
Variable message signs are being utilized throughout the project limits to provide advance notification to motorists of all traffic pattern changes associated with the interchange improvements project. Throughout the project, NJDOT will provide information before upcoming road or ramp closures.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info.
