closed overnight for emergency repairs in Hudson County
Structural steel repairs require temporary overnight detour
(Trenton) -New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced the overnight emergency closure and detour of the ramp from Route 495 eastbound and 30th Street to JFK Boulevard for emergency structural steel repairs in Union City. Beginning at 9 p.m. tomorrow, Friday October 20 until 7 a.m. the next day, NJDOT’s contractor Mount Construction is scheduled to close the intersection of 30th Street eastbound and JFK Boulevard in Union City to allow for structural steel repairs to a damaged bridge fence which poses a potential hazard to traffic below JFK Boulevard on the Route 495 roundabout. Route 495 eastbound motorists exiting for JFK Boulevard and 30th Street will be diverted to the Route 495 lower level roundabout. The work is anticipated to be completed overnight. The following signed detour will be in place:
Route 495 eastbound to JFK Boulevard northbound and 30th Street eastbound Intersection (from 9 p.m. – 7 a.m.)
- Route 495 eastbound motorists exiting onto the 30th Street ramp for JFK Boulevard will be directed to stay left at the split, as the ramp approaching JFK Boulevard will be closed
- Traffic will enter the Route 495 lower level roundabout and make the first right to JFK Boulevard southbound
- Make a left onto 22nd Street
- Make a left onto New York Avenue
JFK Boulevard southbound to 30th Street detour (from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m.)
- JFK Boulevard southbound motorists will be directed to continue over Route 495
- Make a left onto 22nd Street
- Make a left onto New York Avenue
- Continue to 30th Street
- Continue to 30th Street for eastbound traffic
- Or make a left onto 31st Street for JFK Boulevard northbound
Variable message signs and detour signs will be utilized throughout the project limits to provide advance notification to motorists of any traffic pattern changes associated with the repairs project.
