County Route 527 Bridge over the D&R Canal in South Bound Brook Reopens following completion of emergency repairs
(Trenton) -New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced the scheduled Monday, October 30th reopening of the County Route 527 Queens Bridge that crosses the Delaware & Raritan Canal in South Bound Brook following emergency repairs.
“Our crews have been working tirelessly to repair the bridge as quickly as possible so we could reopen this important link between Bound Brook and South Bound Brook,” NJDOT Commissioner Richard T. Hammer said. “We appreciate the residents, businesses, and local officials working in cooperation with the Department to make this challenging project go as smoothly and quickly as it did.”
CR 527 carries traffic between South Bound Brook and Bound Brook over two separate bridges – one, known as the Queens Bridge that spans the D&R Canal, and the other the crosses the Raritan River. The two bridges were closed on September 8 to make repairs to the superstructure of the Queens Bridge.
Inspections of the 97-year-old bridge earlier this year found the rate of deterioration of structural members required immediate repair. Crews have been working 24-hour shifts since September to repair several floor beams, sidewalk brackets, and cross bracing attachments.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info.
