I-295 northbound ramp to I-76 westbound will close this weekend for overnight work in Bellmawr
Right two lanes of I-76 northbound also to close overnight
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced overnight closures this week of the I-295 northbound Exit 27 ramp to I-76 westbound, as well as the two right lanes of I-76 northbound, as the Direct Connection project advances in Camden and Gloucester counties.
Starting at 10 p.m. tonight, Tuesday, November 28 until 5 a.m. the next morning, and continuing each night this week through Friday, December 1, the I-295 northbound Exit 27 ramp to I-76 westbound will be closed, as well as the two right lanes of I-76 westbound, to demolish the old ramp from I-76 eastbound to I-295 northbound. The old ramp was replaced by a new, wider ramp that opened this summer. Two lanes of I-76 westbound will be maintained while the work is taking place. The following detour will be in effect:
I-295 northbound to I-76 westbound detour
- Continue on I-295 northbound to Exit 2B, Black Horse Pike/CR 168
- Turn left onto Black Horse Pike, cross over I-295 and then make a right onto I-295 southbound
- Take Exit 26 to I-76 westbound
Variable message signs are being utilized throughout the project limits to provide advance notification to motorists of all traffic pattern changes associated with Direct Connection. Throughout the project, NJDOT will provide information before upcoming lane closures or traffic shifts.
This work is part of the $900 million Direct Connection project that will provide a seamless route for I-295 motorists traveling through the interchange of I-295, I-76, and Route 42. The Direct Connection project has been divided into four separate construction contracts, with completion of the fourth and final contract expected in the fall of 2021. NJDOT's project website provides construction activity schedules and updates.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info.
