(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced overnight closures of the on-ramp connecting Bear Tavern Road (CR 579) southbound to I-95 southbound (MP 1.5), in Ewing, Mercer County. This closure advances construction of the Scudder Falls Bridge Replacement Project by the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission (DRJTBC).
Starting at 10 p.m., Tuesday, January 2 until 6 a.m. the next morning, and again, following the same schedule, weeknights only, for the next few weeks or as required, DRJTBC contractor, Trumbull Corp., is scheduled to install ramp barriers and create a safe work zone. During the overnight closures the following detour will be in place.
Bear Tavern Road southbound (CR 579) ramp to I-95 southbound detour:
From 10 p.m. Tuesday, January 2, until 6 a.m., Wednesday, January 3. The detour will be in place for the next few weeks, weeknights only, following the same schedule.
- Motorists traveling on Bear Tavern Road southbound (CR 579) will be directed to proceed to the next traffic signal and make a left onto I-95 northbound

- Take exit for I-95 southbound
The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission (DRJTBC) $396 million Scudder Falls Bridge replacement project will replace the functionally obsolete 57-year-old bridge that carries I-95 over the Delaware River between New Jersey and Pennsylvania. The project will replace the current four-lane bridge with a dual-span structure carrying six lanes of through traffic and three auxiliary lanes for merging on and off I-95 at the interchanges, as well as make additional roadway improvements along the 4.4-mile corridor between Route 332 in Pennsylvania and CR579 in New Jersey. Preparation for the bridge replacement project began in April 2017. Construction is expected to be completed by 2022.
Variable message signs are being utilized throughout the project limits to provide advance notification to motorists of traffic pattern changes associated with the bridge, interchange and roadway improvements project.
