Route 48 reopened following completion of Layton Lake Dam safety improvements project in Salem County
Dam improvements and bridge replacement completed
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced the completion and reopening of Route 48 following safety improvement work on Layton Lake Dam and the replacement of the Route 48 Bridge in Carney’s Point, Salem County.
The $6.8 million state- and federally-funded Layton Lake Dam project has been completed on time and on budget. The project included the construction of a new bridge with a span of 40 feet, reconstructing and upgrading the drainage system, and the construction of a spillway. The project was designed to bring Layton Lake Dam into compliance with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection Dam Safety Standards.
