Route 1 northbound and southbound lane closures required for Garden State Parkway Bridge work in Middlesex County
Temporary single and double lane closures necessary in Woodbridge
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced a series of overnight lane closures on Route 1 to accommodate ongoing construction on the Garden State Parkway (GSP) bridges that span over Route 1 in Woodbridge, Middlesex County.
Beginning at 9 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, April 11 until 6 a.m. tomorrow morning, New Jersey Turnpike Authority’s (NJTA) contractor Northeast Remsco Construction, LLC, is scheduled to close the right lane on Route 1 southbound and the left lane on Route 1 northbound. From 11 p.m. until 6 a.m. tomorrow morning, the left and center lanes on Route 1 northbound will be closed. At least one lane will be maintained in each direction.
The same lane closure schedule is expected to continue Thursday and Friday nights into Saturday morning for bridge deck replacement work being performed on the underside of the bridge. The work is expected to continue the following week with the same schedule or until completed.
The bridge work is part of an ongoing NJTA $42.7 million deck replacement contract of six non-major Parkway bridges between Old Bridge and Woodbridge, which began in 2015. Additional lane closures during off-peak hours may be necessary until project completion. NJTA has designed the project to advance with temporary lane closures, reopening after each shift. All lanes will be maintained during the morning and evening commutes. For more information on the project, contact the NJ Turnpike Authority.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info and on the NJDOT Facebook page.
