I-76 westbound lane closures necessary this weekend in Camden County
Emergency temporary closure of lanes required for underground pipe repairs
(Trenton) -New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced the temporary closure this weekend of two out of the five lanes on I-76 westbound near the Route 130 on-ramp, approximately one mile from the Walt Whitman Bridge for emergency repairs in Gloucester City, Camden County.
Beginning at 9 p.m. tonight, Friday, May 4 until 12:01 a.m., Sunday, May 6, NJDOT’s contractor IEW Inc., will close two out of the five lanes on I-76 westbound between Route 130 and Klemm Avenue to make repairs to a severely deteriorated underground metal pipe which resulted in a sinkhole. The area was temporarily stabilized last week by backfilling the sinkhole and pinning a steel plate on the roadway. Due to the extent of the work, the right shoulder also has been closed.
Motorists are advised to use alternate routes and expect delays in the area.
Dynamic Message Signs will provide advance notification to motorists of traffic pattern changes associated with the work. The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.
