I-78 ramp and lane closures continue for pavement resurfacing

Traffic will be detoured overnight in Somerset and Hunterdon Counties

Beginning at 8 p.m. tonight, May 11 until 6 a.m. tomorrow morning, NJDOT’s contractor, Crisdel Group, Inc., is scheduled to close two lanes on I-78 eastbound to install reflective pavement markings between CR 629/Cokesbury Road in Lebanon and CR 665/Rattlesnake Bridge Road in Bedminster following the recent resurfacing of this stretch of I-78.

Additionally, for the next three nights, the contractor is scheduled to close lanes for bridge deck repairs on I-78 westbound between CR 523/Oldwick Road and the interchange with I-287.

Tonight, the contractor also is scheduled to close the Exit 13 on ramp to I-78 eastbound, the Exit 15 on ramp to I-78 eastbound, and the Exit 15 off ramp off of I-78 westbound for milling and paving.

Motorist should follow detour signs during working hours and expect additional overnight lane and ramp closures through the end of the year. At least one lane will be maintained at all times.

Variable messaging signs (VMS) and detour signing will be used throughout the project limits to provide advance notification to motorists of all traffic pattern changes associated with the project.

This work is part of a $24 million project to resurface I-78 from Perryville Road/CR 625 in Union, Hunterdon County to the intersection of I-287 in Bedminster, Somerset County. Improvements include the application of a one-inch High Performance Thin Overlay (HPTO) on the travel lanes and shoulders of this stretch of I-78, as well as upgrades to curbs, drainage, and deck repairs on eight bridges within the project limits. The application of a HPTO will improve ride quality, skid resistance, and reduce noise, as well extend the lifetime of the pavement. The project is expected to be completed in the winter of this year.
