Railroad-crossing repairs begin next week in Pleasantville

Necessary safety work will require road closure and detours

(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced a railroad crossing rehabilitation project that will require a 3-day closure and detour of Devins Lane in Pleasantville, Atlantic County.

Beginning at 6 a.m., Monday, July 16, until 6 p.m., Wednesday, July 18 the two-way traffic on Devins Lane, between Washington Avenue and East Black Horse Pike/CR 322, is scheduled to be closed at the railroad crossing. Devins Lane will be open to local traffic only. The existing railroad crossing will be removed and replaced with a new concrete crossing and asphalt approach.

The following detours will be in place:

Devins Lane southbound
Vehicles traveling southbound on Devins Lane will be detoured east on Washington Avenue, right (south) onto Doughty Road, right (west) onto Black Horse Pike/CR 322 to Noah’s Road or Devins Lane.

Devins Lane northbound
Vehicles traveling northbound on Devins Lane will be detoured west on Black Horse Pike/CR 322, right (north) onto Fire Road/Atlantic 651, and right (east) onto Washington Avenue back to Devins Lane.

The traffic detours will be coordinated with the local police. The roadway will be reopened if work is completed earlier.

In order to provide a safer and smoother railroad crossing in Pleasantville, Atlantic County, the existing crossings will be replaced with new concrete crossings and new asphalt approaches. This federally funded project is included within NJDOT’s railroad grade-crossing safety program that repairs, upgrades, or removes approximately 30 crossings each year, statewide.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info or on the NJDOT Facebook page.
