Overnight detour in place for roughly ten days
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced the start of a preventative maintenance project to repair a bridge in Lawrence.
Beginning at 8 p.m., tonight, Wednesday, July 18 until 6 a.m. the following day and continuing each night for up to ten days, NJDOT’s contractor, Lucas Construction, will close and detour the ramp from Whitehead Road/CR 616 northbound to Route 1 southbound in Lawrence. Improvements include repair of the bridge deck, joints, and substructure. Work is expected to be completed in in the next few weeks. The following overnight detour will be in place:
Whitehead Road north to Route 1 south detour:
- Continue on Whitehead road north past the ramp
- Enter the traffic circle with Route 1 business
- Exit the traffic circle onto Whitehead Road/CR 616
- Keep right and take the ramp from Whitehead Road/CR 616 south exit to Route 1 south
Work on these bridges is part of a larger federally-funded $3.2 million maintenance contract to extend the life of 49 bridge structures along Route 1 through preventative maintenance tasks including concrete repair, crack sealing, and the application of corrosion inhibitors. The contract is part of a multiyear plan, which began in July 2017.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOTinfo and our Facebook Page.
