Route 18 resurfacing project begins in East Brunswick
Lane and ramp closures necessary
(Trenton) - - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced the start of a resurfacing project that will require shoulder, lane and ramp closures along five miles of Route 18 in both directions between Hillsdale Road and Eggers Street in East Brunswick, Middlesex County.
Beginning at 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 22, until 6 a.m. the next day, and continuing weekdays for approximately two weeks or until completion, NJDOT’s contractor, Black Rock Enterprises LLC. is scheduled to temporarily close shoulders, lanes and ramps starting on Route 18 southbound from Hillsdale Road to Eggers Street, and then shift onto Route 18 northbound from Eggers Street to Hillsdale Road to install construction signs and start milling and paving. One lane of traffic will be maintained in each direction at all times.
Any ramp closures when necessary will be detoured to the next available ramp during the hours of the lane closure schedule above. Two consecutive ramps will not be closed simultaneously, to help accommodate detours.
The traffic detours will be coordinated with New Jersey State Police. If work is completed earlier, the roadway will be reopened accordingly. NJDOT will provide advanced notification before any changes in the lane or ramp closure schedule.
Variable message signs and detour signs are being utilized throughout the project limits to provide advance notification to motorists of all traffic pattern changes associated with the resurfacing project.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info or on the NJDOT Facebook page. |
