Route 206 pavement preservation project begins tonight
in Atlantic and Burlington Counties
Alternating traffic overnight required
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced the start of a pavement preservation project requiring lane closures and alternating traffic along six miles of Route 206 in both directions from Hammonton, Atlantic County to Shamong, Burlington County.
Beginning at 8 p.m. tonight, Tuesday, August 21 until 6 a.m. the next day, NJDOT’s contractor, Asphalt Paving Systems, is scheduled to close a single lane for asphalt repair work on Route 206 northbound and Route 206 southbound requiring alternating traffic and flag men starting at Route 30/Whitehorse Pike and ending at the Atsion State Park entrance. Closures will continue as needed, Monday through Friday between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. the next morning until mid-September. Route 206 is a single lane highway in each direction within the construction area.
The $2.2 million federally-funded Route 206 pavement preservation project is expected to be completed in the fall 2018. The project is using micro milling, and asphalt rehabilitation to reduce the need for conventional resurfacing methods. The project process slows the rate of highway deterioration, and allows NJDOT to reduce the backlog of pavement repairs with the available funding.
Construction signs are being utilized throughout the project limits to provide advance notification to motorists of all traffic pattern changes associated with the pavement preservation project.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info or on the NJDOT Facebook page.
