Railroad-crossing repairs begin in Long Branch
Necessary safety work will require road closure and detours
(Trenton) -New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced a railroad crossing rehabilitation project that will require a nine-day closure and detour of Broadway in Long Branch, Monmouth County.
Beginning at 7 a.m., Thursday, August 23, until 7 a.m., Friday, August 31, the two-way traffic on Broadway between 7th Avenue and Dudley Street is scheduled to be closed at the railroad crossing. The existing railroad crossing will be removed and replaced with a new concrete crossing and asphalt approach.
The following detours will be in place:
Broadway eastbound
Motorists traveling eastbound on Broadway will be directed to turn right onto Morris Avenue, left onto Chelsea Avenue, left onto South 5th Avenue and back to Broadway.
Broadway westbound
Motorists traveling westbound on Broadway will be directed to turn right onto 7th Avenue, left onto Route 36/Joline Avenue, left onto Branchport Avenue and back to Broadway.
The traffic detours will be coordinated with the local police. The roadway will be reopened if work is completed earlier.
In order to provide safer and smoother railroad crossing in Long Branch, Monmouth County, the existing crossings will be replaced with new concrete crossings and new asphalt approaches. This federally-funded project is included within NJDOT’s railroad grade-crossing safety program that repairs, upgrades, or removes approximately 30 crossings each year, statewide.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info or on the NJDOT Facebook page. |
