Route 29/I-195 eastbound ramp to I-295 southbound to be closed immediately for emergency repairs in Hamilton
Detour in place for traffic leaving Trenton heading to I-295 southbound
(Trenton) -New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced the immediate closure of the ramp from Route 29/I-195 eastbound to I-295 southbound in Hamilton for emergency repairs.
Beginning immediately today, Friday, September 7, NJDOT’s contractor, IEW Construction, will close the ramp from Route 29/I-195 eastbound to I-295 southbound to make emergency repairs to a bridge pier. An inspection found severe concrete deterioration and exposed rebar requiring immediate attention. NJDOT is in the process of designing the repair and work will begin as soon as the design is finalized with crews working 24 hours a day until complete.
The ramp will remain closed until the repairs are complete with the following detour in place. Motorists should expect congestion during this evening’s commute.
Route 29/I-195 eastbound ramp to I-295 southbound detour:
- Motorists leaving Trenton on Route 29 and Route 129, which becomes I-195, wishing to head south on I-295 will be directed to continue on I-195 eastbound to Exit 1D/Route 206 northbound
- Cross over I-195 and take the loop ramp to I-195 westbound
- Take Exit 1A to I-295 southbound
Variable Message Signs will provide advance notification to motorists of traffic pattern changes associated with the work. The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.
