Route 9 lane closures required for start of Jobs Creek Bridge replacement project in Burlington County
Temporary alternating traffic required for lane shift on bridge
(Trenton) -The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced a temporary alternating traffic pattern to shift lanes on Route 9 for the start of the Jobs Creek Bridge replacement project in Bass River, Burlington County.
Beginning at 8 p.m. tonight, Monday, September 24, until 6 a.m. the next day, NJDOT’s contractor, PKF Mark III, is scheduled to alternate traffic on Route 9 over Jobs Creek (Mile Post 58.05) to install construction drums and restripe the highway. Once the traffic shift is in place, Route 9, which has one lane in each direction, will be shifted onto the south side of the bridge for the start of construction on the bridge replacement. Concrete barriers will replace the traffic drums at a later date. The new traffic pattern is expected to remain for several months.
The $6.2 million federally-funded Route 9 over Jobs Creek replacement project is expected to be completed in late 2020. The bridge superstructure and substructure have been identified as being in poor condition requiring replacement. Construction will occur in stages, allowing for traffic to be maintained with minimal impact. The new bridge will have a new wider 12-foot lanes and an eight-foot wide shoulder in each direction. In addition, a section of the roadway curve will be realigned to enhance safety.
Portable variable message signs are being utilized throughout the project limits to provide advance notification to motorists of all traffic pattern changes associated with the bridge replacement. Throughout the project, NJDOT will provide information before upcoming road closures.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for construction updates and real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info or on the NJDOT Facebook page. |
