Route 70 resurfacing project to begin in Burlington and Ocean Counties
Temporary daytime shoulder closures and traffic shifts necessary to begin construction
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced the start of a pavement rehabilitation and improvements project requiring lane closures and temporary traffic shifts on Route 70 beginning in Pemberton, Burlington County and continuing through Manchester, Ocean County.
Beginning at 7 a.m., today, Wednesday, October 10, until 4 p.m., NJDOT’s Contractor, A.E. Stone, will temporarily close the right shoulder and install traffic shifts along Route 70 in both directions between the area just east of North Branch Road in Pemberton and move east ending at Lacey Road/CR 539 in Manchester. Closures will continue as needed from 7 a.m. until 4 p.m., seven days a week, until the end of the year.
The $12.2 million improvement project includes a full depth pavement reclamation and rubblization, milling and paving, guiderail upgrades, and construction of ADA compliant curbs and ramps, and drainage improvements on approximately seven miles of roadway, as well as intersection work at Whiting New Egypt Road/CR539.
Access to properties will be maintained at all times during construction. Occasional overnight work may be necessary during construction.
Variable message signboards and lane closure signs are being utilized throughout the project limits to provide advance notification to motorists of planned closures. NJDOT will provide notification before any lane or ramp closures.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.
