Route 206 reopened today following culvert repair in Princeton
Detours removed and all lanes reopened this morning
(Trenton) -New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced the reopening this morning of Route 206 in both directions, as a priority culvert replacement project advances in Princeton.
This morning, Wednesday, November 21, NJDOT’s contractor Marbro Inc., finished restriping the roadway and repositioned the barriers for the removal of detours and reopening of Route 206. The reopening of Route 206 in both directions between Hillside Avenue and Arreton Road follows the completion of work, which began last week to excavate, demolish, and replace a culvert over a branch of Stony Brook. Both the vehicle and truck detours necessary for the construction were removed this morning.
In the fall of 2017, a scheduled inspection found the 14-foot culvert, built more than 100 years ago, was in need of replacement. Temporary steel plates were installed and paved over until a new culvert could be manufactured and prepared for installation. The $1.9 million state-funded culvert replacement project is replacing the culvert that had missing concrete, scour within the culvert, and was causing ponding on the roadway. The project in expected to be fully completed in spring 2019. NJDOT will be providing updates as the culvert replacement work advances.
Portable variable message signs will provide advance notification to motorists of traffic pattern changes associated with the work. The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT's traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information and for NJDOT news follow us on Twitter @NJDOT_info and on our Facebook page.
