I-287 pavement preservation project begins
in Bergen County
Overnight lane shifts will be required
(Trenton) -New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced the start of a pavement preservation project along nearly three miles of I-287 in Bergen County.
Beginning at 8:30 p.m., tomorrow, Wednesday, December 5, until 6 a.m. the next day, and continuing overnight on Thursday, December 6 and Friday, December 7, NJDOT’s contractor, Della Pello Paving, is scheduled to reduce I-287 northbound to one lane between Oakland and Franklin Lakes for asphalt repair work. Work will take place to fill cracks and repair road joints to preserve the existing pavement through the winter. The I-287 southbound roadway will be repaired upon completion of the northbound side.
Due to required temperature sensitive concrete work, the project will shut down for winter after the asphalt repair work is completed and resume in the spring. No lane closures will occur during Christmas or New Year’s holidays.
The $4.2 million state-funded I-287 pavement preservation project will extend the pavement life of the roadway, improve safety and enhance ride quality for motorists with the application of a High Performance Thin Overlay treatment. All ramps within the project limits will be resurfaced. I-287 roadway bridge deck joint seals will be replaced and repairs will be made to the deck as necessary. The project is being accomplished in stages and is expected to be completed in 2019.
Variable message signs are being used throughout the project limits to provide advance notification to motorists of all traffic pattern changes associated with the pavement preservation project. Throughout the project, NJDOT will provide information before any road closures.
