Railroad-crossing repairs begin in Woolwich
Necessary safety work will require road closure and detours
(Trenton) -New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced a railroad crossing rehabilitation project that will require a three-day closure and detour of Route 322 in Woolwich, Gloucester County.
Beginning at 7 p.m., Friday, December 7, until 7 a.m., Sunday, December 9, Route 322 will be closed and detoured in both directions between Garwin Road and Paulsboro Road. Route 322 will be open to local traffic only. The existing railroad crossing will be removed and replaced with a new concrete crossing and asphalt approach.
The following detours will be in place:
Route 322 eastbound
- Vehicles traveling eastbound on Route 322 will be directed to turn right onto Paulsboro Road
- Turn left onto Kings Highway/CR 551
- Turn right onto Route 322
Route 322 westbound
- Vehicles wanting to travel westbound on Route 322 will be directed to turn left onto Kings Highway
- Turn right onto Paulsboro Road/CR 551
- Turn left onto Route 322
The traffic detours will be coordinated with the local police. If work is completed earlier, the roadway will be reopened accordingly.
In order to provide safer and smoother railroad crossing in Woolwich, Gloucester County, the existing crossings will be replaced with new concrete crossings and new asphalt approaches. This federally funded project is included within NJDOT’s railroad grade-crossing safety program that repairs, upgrades, or removes approximately 30 crossings each year, statewide.
