Major delays on Route 139 to Holland Tunnel expected starting tomorrow because of a local lane closure for municipal utility work in Jersey City

(Trenton) -New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced motorists should expect major delays and congestion on Route 139 eastbound going toward the Holland Tunnel while the Jersey City Municipal Utilities Authority (JCMUA) performs utility work on 12th Street for the next week.

Starting at 12 midnight (tonight), Saturday, February 23, and continuing for approximately a week, Jersey City Municipal Utilities Authority will be closing the center lane on Route 139 eastbound heading towards the intersection of 12th Street and Jersey Avenue. The left lane is a turn lane only onto Jersey Avenue. The right lane will be opened for through traffic onto 12th Street. In addition, three lanes will also be closed on 12th Street between Jersey Avenue and Erie Street approaching the New York bound Holland Tunnel.

Motorists should expect heavy congestion and delays on Route 139 eastbound into the construction area on 12th Street and are encouraged to consider alternate routes for the next two weeks.

This work will have a 24/7 lane closure that will last approximately seven days.
