Railroad-crossing repairs begin tomorrow on Morlot Avenue in Fairlawn

Necessary safety work will require road closure and detours

(Trenton) -New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced a railroad crossing rehabilitation project that will require the closure and detour of Morlot Avenue for a week, starting tomorrow in Fairlawn, Bergen County.

Beginning at 9 a.m. Wednesday, April 3, until 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, the two-way traffic on Morlot Avenue is scheduled to be closed and detoured between Burke Place and Banta Place, before the railroad grade crossing. The following detours will be in place:

From Morlot Avenue east:

• Traveling east on Morlot Avenue, motorists will be directed to take Plaza Road north
• Turn left on Fairlawn Avenue
• Turn left on River Road and continue to Morlot Avenue

From Morlot Avenue west:

• Traveling west on Fairlawn Avenue, motorists will be directed to make a left onto River Road
• Turn right on Fairlawn Avenue
• Turn right on Plaza Road to Morlot Avenue
  

The traffic detour will be coordinated with the local police. If work is completed earlier, the roadways will be reopened accordingly.

In order to provide safer and smoother railroad crossing in Fairlawn, the existing crossing will be replaced with new concrete crossings and new asphalt approaches. This federally-funded project is included within NJDOT’s railroad grade-crossing safety program which repairs, upgrades, or removes approximately 30 crossings each year, statewide.
