Route 4 overnight lane closures Thursday in Paramus

Bridge repairs require shoulder and acceleration/deceleration lane closures

(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced overnight lane closures on Route 4 eastbound and westbound near the Paramus Road interchange on Thursday night as the Paramus Road Bridge over Route 4 project begins in Paramus.

Beginning at 9 p.m. Thursday, April 18, until 6 a.m. the next morning, NJDOT’s contractor IEW Construction, is scheduled to close the right lane on Route 4 eastbound and westbound just before the Paramus Road exit to install construction barrier to close the eastbound acceleration/deceleration lane and the westbound shoulder under the bridge. Two lanes on Route 4 westbound will be open, as well as three travel lanes on Route 4 eastbound while the overnight work is taking place.
In addition to closing the Route 4 eastbound acceleration/deceleration lane and the westbound shoulder, the ramp from Paramus Road northbound to Route 4 westbound will be narrowed. This configuration will be in place for approximately two months to allow for repairs to the bridge abutments and bearing work.
Once this stage is complete, the bridge will be closed and detoured for a few weeks while it is demolished and replaced with precast deck components. Once the bridge is reopened, work will continue on guiderail, parapets, fencing and paving.
Work on the state-funded $5 million project began in January with the relocation of utility poles and wires. The project is expected to be completed by the fall 2019.
