Railroad-crossing repairs begin in Closter, Bergen County
Necessary safety work will require road closure and detours
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced a railroad crossing rehabilitation project that will require a three-day closure and detour of Old Hook Road this week in Closter, Bergen County.
Beginning at 7 a.m., tomorrow, Saturday, May 18, until 7 p.m., Monday, May 20, Old Hook Road will be closed and detoured in both directions at the railroad crossing. The following detours will be in place:
Old Hook Road eastbound
- Motorists wishing to travel eastbound on Old Hook Road will be directed to take Bogerts Mill Road
- Take the jug handle onto Bogerts Mill Road
- Turn right onto Harriot Avenue
- Turn right onto Schraalenburgh Road
- Turn left onto Old Hook Road eastbound
Old Hook Road westbound
- Motorists wishing to travel westbound on Old Hook Road will be directed to turn right onto Schraalenburgh Road
- Turn left onto Harriot Avenue
- Turn left onto Bogerts Mill Road
- Turn right onto Old Hook Road westbound
This federally-funded project includes the replacement of the existing concrete railroad crossing and asphalt approaches, and is a part of NJDOT’s railroad grade-crossing safety program that repairs, upgrades, or removes approximately 30 crossings per year statewide.
The traffic detours will be coordinated with the local police. If work is completed earlier, the roadway will be reopened accordingly.
