Delancy Street to be closed and detoured for railroad-crossing repairs this week in Newark, Essex County
Necessary safety work will require detours
(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials announced today the start of a railroad crossing rehabilitation project that will require a four-day closure and detour of Delancy Street later this week in Newark, Essex County.
Beginning at 7 a.m., Tuesday, August 27, until 7 p.m., Friday, August 30, Delancy Street will be closed and detoured in both directions at the railroad crossing between Stockton Street and Rutherford Road to remove the existing crossing and replace it with a new concrete crossing, as well as new asphalt approaches. The following detours will be in place:
Delancy Street eastbound detour
- Motorists traveling on Delancy Street eastbound will be directed to turn left onto Stockton Street
- Turn right onto Wilson Avenue eastbound
- Turn right onto Avenue P
- Turn right onto Rutherford Road back to Delancy Street
All traffic taking Route 1 northbound off-ramp to Delancy Street will be directed westbound on Delancy Street to Stockton Street.
Delancy Street westbound detour
- Motorists wishing to travel westbound on Delancy Street will be directed to take Rutherford Road
- Turn left onto Avenue P
- Turn left onto Wilson Avenue
- Turn left onto Stockton Street back to Delancy Street
The traffic detours will be coordinated with the local police. If work is completed earlier, the roadway will be reopened accordingly.
