NJDOT completes
Spaghetti Bowl ramps ahead of schedule

The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) recently announced the substantial completion of all nine bridges, ramps and travel lanes on routes 23, 46 and 80 in Wayne, Passaic County.

The Route 46, Route 23 and I-80 interchanges in Wayne are among the busiest crossroads in the state, carrying over 300,000 vehicles a day and serving many area businesses. NJDOT successfully completed this project ahead of schedule and with minimal impact to area commerce and residents.

The $70 million project began in Fall 2005 and included the replacement of nine bridge decks, roadway realignment and resurfacing, ramp modification and the addition of signs, lighting, guide rails and acceleration and deceleration lanes. The project was part of NJDOT's $195.4 million initiative to improve safety on Route 46 from Clifton to Fairfield.

The modernization of the interchanges will improve traffic flow and safety and preserve the infrastructure. The roadways previously featured congestion bottlenecks, clearance problems, outdated signage and lighting and poor drainage.
