NJDOT fully reopens Route 28 to
motorists in Bound Brook and Middlesex

$2 million bridge deck replacement complete

(Trenton)– The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced that Route 28 over Green Brook in Bound Brook, Somerset County and Middlesex Borough, Middlesex County has reopened and is in its final traffic configuration.

NJDOT replaced the Route 28 Green Brook bridge deck, repaved Route 28 and installed new guide rail and sidewalks in both directions.

“The Route 28 bridge deck replacement is an investment in safety that exemplifies NJDOT’s commitment to improving the state's aging highway bridges,” said Governor Jon S. Corzine.

On Monday evening, December 15, NJDOT opened Route 28 to two full lanes of traffic in each direction. NJDOT is completing construction on the $2 million Route 28 over Green Brook bridge deck replacement project. During construction, NJDOT reduced Route 28 to one lane in each direction. NJDOT will complete the remaining work, including landscaping, in spring 2009.

NJDOT has installed variable message signs on Route 28 to inform motorists of temporary traffic pattern changes. Real-time travel and construction information is available online at www.511nj.org.
