Route 46 westbound traffic to be shifted
over Beaver Brook in White Township
(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced upcoming traffic pattern changes to Route 46 over Beaver Brook in White Township, Warren County.
On Tuesday, December 21, NJDOT shifted Route 46 westbound traffic to the Route 46 eastbound lanes, maintaining one travel lane in each direction. Removing Route 46 westbound traffic from that side of the divided highway will allow NJDOT to demolish the existing westbound bridge deck and install the new deck.
The week before, NJDOT closed Sarepta Road (CR 618) at the intersection with Route 46 westbound. Motorists are being detoured as follows:
• Route 46 motorists headed for Sarepta Road will be directed to North Bridgeville Road (CR 519) to Sarepta Road.
• Sarepta Road motorists headed for Route 46 will be directed to Ledge Road to Upper Sarepta Road to Route 46.
The traffic shift and Sarepta Road closure are expected to remain in place for approximately nine months, until September 2011.
The $1.9 million federally-funded project, which began construction earlier this month, will replace the existing, structurally deficient bridge deck, as well as the bridge abutments and approach slabs. New curbing and guiderail will also be installed. NJDOT’s contractor, H&G Contractors Inc., will then resurface Route 46 westbound on either side of the bridge between milepost 7.08 and milepost 7.5. Construction is anticipated to be complete by the end of 2011.
Variable message signs have been installed to inform motorists of the traffic pattern shift. Motorists are also encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for construction updates and real-time travel information.
