Route 139 westbound lane closure announced
this weekend in Jersey City
Route 1&9T/St. Paul’s Avenue viaduct project progresses

NJDOT will close the lane, for approximately 500 feet where Route 139 westbound enters onto the Route 1&9 Pulaski Skyway, on Friday, June 15 at 9 p.m. until around 12 p.m. (noon) on Monday, June 18. The lane closure is necessary to facilitate construction operations on the ongoing Route 1&9T viaduct over St. Paul’s Avenue project.

• Access to the ramps for the Tonnelle Circle and for Route 1&9T southbound will be maintained. All Route 139 westbound motorists destined for the Pulaski Skyway should remain in the left lane.

NJDOT’s contractor, George Harms Construction Co., has replaced the Routes 1&9T viaduct over St. Paul's Avenue with a new structure on a new alignment north of the present structure. The old viaduct had been constructed in 1928 and is structurally deficient and functionally obsolete.

The $210 million federally funded project is building new approach roads to safely connect to Route 1&9T, Route 7, Pulaski Skyway, Route 139, Route 1&9 north of Tonnelle Circle and local streets in Jersey City. The project will provide a more continuous flow of traffic and safer connections to the roadways that form a vital link to this region's transportation network. Major construction efforts are now focused on the permanent new ramp system that will accommodate access between the numerous state and local roadways in this location. Project completion is anticipated in spring 2013.

NJDOT will utilize Dynamic Message Signs to inform motorists of all traffic pattern changes.
