NJDOT to begin bridge maintenance work
in Monmouth County
Preventive maintenance work will be done to 32 individual structures on Routes 18, 33, 35 and 71
(Trenton) - NJDOT officials today announced the start of a bridge maintenance project that will address 32 individual bridge structures along sections of four different state highways in Monmouth County.
To help extend the service life of thirty two structures along sections of Route 18, Route 33, Route 35 and Route 71 NJDOT will be performing different levels of bridge maintenance work at each location including deck patching, joint repairs, header reconstruction, crack repairs and the application of a corrosion inhibitor. Work will be performed on abutment walls and piers at certain locations as well.
This week, NJDOT’s maintenance contractor, Nagi Construction Co., is scheduled to begin repair work at the Wyncrest Road bridge over Route 18 in Marlboro. Temporary single lane closures will be allowed during overnight at each location and off-peak hours and shoulder closures will be allowed at any time. During the summer months, construction restrictions will be in place prohibiting any lane closures on weekends. The $2.7 million project is scheduled to be completed in fall 2013.
The Department recently completed similar bridge preventive maintenance projects to address other bridges along Route 18 in Monmouth and Middlesex counties, and along Interstate 195 in Mercer and Monmouth counties.
Performing these types of proactive, preventive repairs helps prolong the lifespan of these bridges and delays the need for more extensive and more expensive projects.
All work is weather dependent. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for construction updates and real-time travel information.
