NJDOT announces Route 30 closures over
Beach Thorofare bridge in Atlantic City
(Trenton) - NJDOT officials today announced a series of Route 30 closures will begin next week to complete the installation of new safety barrier gates on the Route 30/Absecon Boulevard Bridge over Beach Thorofare in Atlantic City, Atlantic County.
Starting Monday, October 8, NJDOT will be closing Route 30 in either direction overnight - between 8 p.m. and 7 a.m. the following morning – to install new safety barrier gates on both sides of the movable bridge.
The following week – October 15th through 19th – NJDOT will enact periodic full closures of Route 30 in both directions between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. daily for system testing of the new barrier gates. These full closures will be limited to 15 minute periods at a time.
In spring 2012, NJDOT completed a $6 million project to repair the concrete deck, deck joints and sidewalks on the bridge. That work also included updating mechanical and electrical systems to the bascule span bridge, reinforcing the retaining walls and painting.
The safety barrier gates installed in that project were damaged in late-June during a heavy storm and are now being replaced.
The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website www.511nj.org for real-time travel information.
