NJDOT opens new Tonnelle Avenue ramp to
Pulaski Skyway in Jersey City
Route 1&9T/St. Paul’s Avenue viaduct project
continues to progress
(Trenton) - NJDOT officials today announced that a newly rebuilt Route 1&9/Tonnele Avenue southbound ramp that connects motorists to the Route 1&9 Pulaski Skyway southbound (heading west) has been opened to traffic on Friday night, October 5 in Jersey City.
NJDOT had closed the old ramp connection at this location in October 2011 to construct the new ramp, which features improved geometry and sight-distance for safer traffic merging. NJDOT’s contractor, George Harms Construction Co., has also demolished the old ramp.
During the ramp closure, Route 1&9 and Kennedy Boulevard southbound motorists destined for the Skyway had been detoured using Route 1&9T southbound, running parallel to the Skyway. The new ramp provides a much faster and more direct connection for these motorists.
The Department’s $210 million, federally-funded project is building new approach roads to safely connect Route 1&9T, Route 7, the Pulaski Skyway, Route 139, Route 1&9 north of Tonnele Circle and local streets in Jersey City. The project will provide a more continuous flow of traffic and safer connections to the roadways that form a vital link to this region's transportation network. Project completion is on track for spring 2013.
