Regional roadway repair work to begin along
Route 45 in Salem County
NJDOT to improve almost four miles of deteriorated pavement
in Salem City and Mannington

(Trenton) - The New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) today announced a roadway repair project to address an almost four-mile long stretch of Route 45 in Salem County is scheduled to begin overnight construction this week.

NJDOT’s maintenance contractor, South State Inc., will mill and repave deteriorated pavement along Route 45 from just south of Fenwick Creek (milepost 0.37) in Salem City to the vicinity of Mannington Creek (milepost 4.12) in Mannington Township.

Slated to begin on Wednesday night, April 3, the mainline resurfacing work on Route 45 will be performed during overnight hours - between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m. – utilizing an alternating traffic pattern controlled by contractor flagmen at each end of the work zone. The overnight resurfacing work is expected to last around two weeks, at which time the contractor will switch to daytime work – utilizing traffic shifts to keep all lanes open - to complete the resurfacing of the highway shoulders and complete curb and driveway repairs.

This Route 45 resurfacing work is included as part of an approximately $8.4 million regional maintenance resurfacing contract that began construction last fall. The contractor has completed roadway repairs over a four-mile stretch Route 49 in both directions from Bridgeton City (milepost 27) through Fairfield Township to CR 634/Nabb Avenue in Millville City (milepost 31.4) in Cumberland County.

Upon completion of the Route 45 repaving work, the contractor will then shift construction operations to address:

• Route 49 in both directions from west of Hook Road (milepost 0.1) to east of Chestnut Lane (milepost 5.7) in Pennsville Township in Salem County.
• Route 47 (Delsea Drive) in both directions from north of Henderson Avenue (milepost 39.3) to just south of High Street (milepost 41.7) in Millville City in Cumberland County.

The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors. Motorists are encouraged to check NJDOT’s traffic information website real-time travel information.
