Regional roadway repair project to shift operations
to Route 49 in Pennsville
NJDOT to improve more than five miles of deteriorated pavement utilizing overnight detours
(Trenton) - NJDOT officials today announced that an ongoing roadway repair project is scheduled to shift operations to Route 49 next week in Pennsville, to address a more than five-mile long stretch.
NJDOT’s maintenance contractor, South State Inc., will mill and repave deteriorated pavement along Route 49 in both directions from south of the I-295/Route 40 interchange (milepost 0.1) to east of S. Hook Road (milepost 5.7) in Pennsville Township in Salem County. The Route 49 resurfacing work will be accomplished during overnight hours utilizing one-way eastbound detours, maintaining westbound traffic at all times. Signs will be in place directing motorists along the detour routes.
This Route 49 resurfacing work is included as part of an approximately $8.4 million regional maintenance resurfacing contract that began construction last fall. The contractor has already completed roadway repairs:
• Over a four-mile stretch Route 49 in both directions from Bridgeton City (milepost 27) through Fairfield Township to CR 634/Nabb Avenue in Millville City (milepost 31.4) in Cumberland County.
• On Route 45 from just south of Fenwick Creek (milepost 0.37) in Salem City to the vicinity of Mannington Creek (milepost 4.12) in Mannington Township.
Upon completion of the Route 49 repaving work - expected to wrap up by the end of the month - the contractor will then shift construction operations to address Route 47 (Delsea Drive) in both directions from north of Henderson Avenue (milepost 39.3) to just south of High Street (milepost 41.7) in Millville City in Cumberland County.
