Route 4 westbound overnight closure this weekend
in Englewood for deck replacement
Detours will be in place from the George Washington Bridge

(Trenton) - New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced Route 4 westbound will be completely closed to traffic and detoured this weekend during the overnight hours while the replacement of the Route 4 bridge deck over Flat Rock Brook in Englewood City, Bergen County advances.

The $1.5 million state-funded project is replacing the existing, deteriorated structure with a new pre-cast concrete bridge deck.

The westbound lanes of Route 4 from the George Washington Bridge will be completely closed beginning at 9:00 p.m. Friday, August 16, through 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 17, and at 9:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 17, through 10:00 a.m. Sunday, August 18, with the contractor, Creamer-Sanzari Inc., installing a new prefabricated structure bridge deck.

Detours have been set up with signs to direct travelers. Motorists are encouraged to leave extra time for travel or plan alternate routes.

Detours:
• Traffic coming from the George Washington Bridge will follow the detour using I-95 westbound to Exit 70, Frank W. Burr Boulevard to Degraw Avenue westbound to Teaneck Road northbound to Route 4.

• Local traffic will be detoured from Route 4 at Jones Road to Van Nostrand Avenue to allow access to local roadways in Englewood.

• Traffic heading to destinations further west coming from the George Washington Bridge will be detoured using I-95 westbound to I-80 westbound to Route 17 northbound to Route 4 westbound.

The new bridge deck was manufactured off site and the use of pre-cast concrete bridge components will enable NJDOT to significantly shorten the construction schedule and minimize impacts to traffic. Last weekend, the installation of a new bridge deck on the eastbound lanes was completed.

In addition to the replacement of the existing bridge deck, NJDOT will resurface the bridge approaches on Route 4 in both directions. Construction is scheduled for completion later this summer.

NJDOT will employ variable message signs to notify motorists of the upcoming bridge closure.
