New Transit
Routes
The Situation |
Through the Public Involvement Program (both
the general public and key area stakeholders) it became clear that there was potential for
instituting some new transit routes to better serve the area by providing more direct
connections to certain destinations. |
|
|
The Proposal |
Institute the following new routes: --
An extension of the Rutgers University Bus Line from the Livingston/Bush Campuses to the
Edison train station, Route 1 and New Brunswick
-- Establish a new route on Route 1 from New Brunswick to Rahway
-- Establish a new route along Route 9 and the Garden State Parkway from Freehold to
the Metropark train station and offices |

|
The Actions |
Conduct a market analysis to determine
potential demand; conduct a planning & operational analysis to determine feasibility;
partner with appropriate service providers and stakeholders, institute on a selected route
on a trail basis; conduct follow up to determine success/failure. |
|
|
Estimated Annual Cost ($Millions) |
$1.7 |
|
|
Overall Traffic Benefits |
Low (modeling did not consider routes
individually; more detailed analysis for each route is needed to better determine
benefits/cost) |
|
|
